HI-My Name is Phil: If you read my Hitting Techniques, Base Running Instruction and Bunting Instruction you will enjoy my Sliding Fundamentals.

SLIDING FUNDAMENTALS: We will go over different ways you can slide.

Bent Leg Slide: Once you make up your mind your going to slide, do not change your mind you could get hurt. You run into you slide at full speed. Do not slide late as you could hurt yourself sliding into the base. A bent leg slide is a direct slide into the base your going to. You throw your right leg or left leg into a four position and your opposite foot hits the base. Keep your opposite foot up as not to catch your spikes or cleats. You also slide on your butt, not on your side as to scrape your side, knee and hand. Keep you hands up as not to sprain your wrist. Learn to slideboth right and left.

Pop Up Slide: You use the bent leg slide to the left side. That means your left leg is bent and your right leg is straight. You hit the base with your right leg and pop up without using your hands. Your momentum will help you push up without using your hands as you go to the next base.

Hook Slide: You use a bent leg slide, and hook your right or left foot on the base depending which side of the base your sliding too. It also depends which side of the base the ball is thrown at.

Back Door Slide: Is when you slide past the base and hook the base with your hand. As your hand is sliding down the base you roll over and touch the base with your other hand.

Take Out Slide: Use the bent leg slide, but slide a little bit late as your trying to take the fielder out of the play with out hurting him. Use your front leg to sweep the fielder out of the way.

Head First Slide: When you do this slide you cannot slow down or you will get hurt. You slide on your chest stomach with your hand extended off the ground as not to hurt your head, shoulders, elbows fingers and knees.
